What is Safflower oil?

A type of oil commonly called salad oil. Safflower is a plant of the Asteraceae family.

Conventional safflower oil is a high linoleic type that contains 75% linolenic acid.
Linolenic acid is an essential fatty acid, but it is known that excessive intake can cause arteriosclerosis, allergies, atopic dermatitis, etc., so need to be careful.

And because the content of linolenic acid was regarded as a problem, as a result of breeding, high oleic acid safflower oil containing a large amount of oleic acid was produced.

Effect of Safflower oil

Safflower oil is also famous as a carrier oil, and in that case, I think that a high linoleic type may be used, but since there is no merit to take high linoleic when it comes to food, I personally recommend a high oleic type for food. I think it's an option!
So, here I will introduce the effect of high oleic type safflower oil!

Adjust blood cholesterol level with oleic acid!

Oleic acid lowers LDL-cholesterol in the blood and maintains HDL-cholesterol, so it regulates the cholesterol level in the blood.

Relieve constipation with oleic acid!

Oleic acid has the effect of activating intestinal motility, so it is effective for constipation.
Since the gastrointestinal tract and the skin are connected, the constipation is resolved, and when the gastrointestinal tract is clean, the skin is going to be in good condition!

Suppress stomach acid with oleic acid!

Since oleic acid has the function of suppressing the excessive secretion of gastric acid, it can be expected to prevent gastric ulcer and duodenal ulcer. It is also recommended for people who have heartburn and stomach upset.

How to use Safflower oil

・For daily cooking

High oleic type safflower oil is more heat resistant than regular salad oil, so it can be used in any dish, including stir-fried foods, fried foods, and grilled foods!
Since it has no peculiar taste, it is easy to use for making dressings and mayonnaise.

Issue of safflower oil

Nowadays, high oleic type safflower oil has become the mainstream and the content of linolenic acid has been reduced, so it seems that the problem has been solved, but there are still some points to be aware of.

・Pay attention to the manufacturing method

Most of the oils that are generally classified as salad oil are solvent extraction methods that use chemical solvents. The oil produced by the solvent extraction method has a bad color, a strong odor, and the solvent remains when it is left as it is. Therefore, it is packed in a plastic container through various processes such as filtration, deodorization, decolorization, coloring, and high temperature treatment.
Oils that have undergone this process contain almost no nutrients that should be contained in the raw materials, and trans fatty acids are generated during high-temperature treatment.
So it applies to all oils, but when choosing an oil, be sure to choose a cold press method.

・First of all, it doesn't have to be safflower oil

I have introduced some of the effects of safflower oil above, but this is the function of oleic acid rather than the effect of safflower oil.
So, in that sense, there are many oils such as olive oil, camellia oil, and rapeseed oil that have more oleic acid than safflower oil, and in addition, you can benefit from phytochemicals and vitamins.
The advantage of using safflower oil is that it is a little cheaper than other oleic acid oils and you can get a decent amount of oleic acid.
If you are looking for a healthy oil and want "oleic acid + other effects", I recommend olive oil, camellia oil, rapeseed oil, etc.

・If you buy it, choose the high oleic type

I don't choose safflower oil myself, but there are reasons such as "You really want oil that doesn't have a habit" or "You want oil that is a little cheaper and gentle on the body" . Choose high oil type when purchasing!

If you choose, I think this kind of oil is good ↓
